You are not serious, right?
That is a "stupid" question (I mean that politely) on many levels. |

| Not nearly as stupid as it may sound. After all, one of the ten commandments is that "thou shall have no other gods before me", isn't it? Deuteronomy 3:16 says: "And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them." Those are just two examples - there are more. So clearly the Biblical Jehovah is aware that there are other gods around, and in the manner of every rapacious conglomerate everywhere, doesn't like competition. |

Hmmmm .... Ok, I see the point that you are making and you are right it is not a silly question IF it is coming from that point of view ... clearly the Old Testament scripture quotes God using the word "god(s)" so someone who is looking at those passages could quite easily conclude the above.
I would like to see points of view (keep it respectful atheists).
This will be interesting ...

He most definately can not be "atheist" because He knows His existance is true and bears witness to Himself ... however, the other question (the way Shaker explained it) is definately more reasonable and would make interesting discussion. |

That only works if God believed in the other Gods - If God doesn't believe in other Gods what does that make it?
If God believes that the other Gods exist then the other Gods must exist.
Can a God who doesn't believe that the other Gods exist be called an Atheist???? |

I will paste the same reply as I have just posted in nglreturns.
| Quote: | | He clearly believed there were other gods, otherwise he wouldn't have said "I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt have none other gods but me". He would have said simply "I am the Lord God, there are no other gods". |

Does anyone else feel that URL is missing Lynne?
I feel that this question is a clear provokation to prompt Scriptural referencing ....

I think most of the All Faiths entire thread is simply provocative and antagonistic.
So many threads are just so obviously there to cause mayhem its ridiculous.
Re this one... I would imagine that the other Gods are other things that people cling onto - money, wealth, status etc... all things that can 'direct' a life.. whereas God wants us to follow him.
I think that is fairly obvious.. and I am surprised that URL wouldnt understand that... I thknk we all know that he does
