Is 'atheism', in fact, an evil, and consequently a sin?
The mirth of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.
For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life? Job 20:5; 27:8
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of human beings who suppress the truth by their wickedness Romans 1:18

I don't think it is a black and white issue BB. You cannot believe what you cannot believe. I do think it is wrong when people completely harden their hearts, will not keep an open mind and want to tear down other peoples' dearly held beliefs, but not all atheism, or atheists, is/are about that. So I haven't voted but you will have plenty of other votes.
Happy new year! |

| Nothing special, it is just a fact. Belief cannot be forced, or argued. You do or you don't. Plenty of us didn't believe at one time, I can still remember it, and my incredulity when listening to those who did. However I was always interested (in some ways more than now!) in discussions about faith, enjoyed the company of people who did believe, as long as they had other topics of conversation, and did not try to force me. That's just me though, we are all different. |

Well, quite, I know it and you know it. Plenty, however, give the impression of seeming to be unaware of it. |

Very literally so. The concept of sin only makes any sense within a theistic context: outside of that context it means nothing. No gods, no sin. So sin might be in the theistic vocabulary, but not the atheistic one. |

Sin is about doing wrong. It is a breaking of Gods laws.
Criminal offences are still committed if you break the Law.
So sin/wrongdoing does exist outside religion.
So wrongdoing is Sin and it does exist regardless of whatever spin a closed mind wants to put on it. |

Sin is a term used mainly in a religious context to describe an act that violates a moral rule, or the state of having committed such a violation.
But outside of religion, acts such as adultery or homosexuality (which might be sins to you) aren't actually against the law. As everyone lives by the law of the land, and not by the law made up by the inventors of religion, sins are then irrelevant to the majority of society!
Most atheists hold that moral codes derive from societal mores or innate human characteristics, rather than religious authority. Atheists may still adhere to a strong ethical code, even if they do not use the concept of sin. |
